Children’s Society – Space to Grow

Description

The Children’s Society; Space to Grow

Space to Grow is a new, free emotional health and wellbeing service that we are launching in Newport.  It is funded by BBC Children in Need to work directly with children aged 8-13 who are struggling with their emotional health and wellbeing.

The program will provide direct early intervention support, on a time limited basis, to children and where appropriate their parents/carers.  There will be one full-time practitioner working with children on an outreach basis and a service manager in each area.

This is part of a national program across England, Wales, Scotland (through our partnership with Children 1st) and Northern Ireland (through our partnership with MACS).  Most of these sites are already up and running.

The program will be funded for 2 years (2027), and we aim to reach 6000 children across the UK in this time, with a strong focus on reaching children who are underrepresented in emotional health and wellbeing services.

We offer a range of support to children directly, including 6-8 1:1 or group sessions.  Along with this, we also offer broader work within schools.  We can be quite flexible in our approach so want to work closely with professionals to identify the presenting issues so that we can create sessions that address these and work towards improving children’s emotional health and wellbeing, considering the Health and Well-being What Matters statements.  We can deliver awareness raising assemblies along with class workshops.  As an example, some topics that can be addressed are emotions and feelings, managing worry, emotional regulation strategies, transitions, mindfulness, friendships etc…
