The Heritage and Health programme has been shaped through a collaboration with the community and key partners, aiming to improve understanding, engagement and communication within the many diverse communities we have across Newport. This is in a bid to improve access to health services and community support including community screenings, vaccinations and raise awareness of preventative health and wellbeing support, with diabetes and women’s health as examples.
The workshops for the health topics have been designed for peer-to-peer delivery, enabling space for language, culture and community messaging to be central in sharing information in a bid to reduce health inequalities.
The first workshop was delivered in partnership with KidCare4U and their Bengali women’s group.
“The feedback received was overwhelmingly postiive from everyone who attended. I just wanted to take a moment to say that this is a true example of collaboration and how powerful working together can be. The whole heritage and health workshop, with it’s community-led approach, is a perfect reflection of this.”
